If kids can read, why can't they spell?

Have you ever thought, “My child can read text well enough, but why can’t he spell all the words he is able to read?” Is a child’s ability to read and decode words equal to a child’s ability to spell and encode words?” If my child can read a word, shouldn’t he be able to spell it?
